Top Kitchen Design Trends 2021

It is no surprise that we have seen a rise in home renovation projects with the increased amount of time we are spending at home. Whether you are getting ready to embark on a remodel or are still toying with the idea, here are some of the top kitchen design trends to be on the lookout for this year.

Popular Kitchen Design Trends

Kitchens with Color

2020 was all about the white, clean, neutral kitchen. On the flipside, 2021 is all about color and making your kitchen your own. From colorful cabinets to vibrant backsplashes, it’s the year of bright, colorful kitchens.

Camouflaging Appliances

Before you turn your head at this emerging trend, this isn’t your grandma’s 1970’s wood paneling. Professionally referred to as “integrated cabinetry”, it’s popularity has been gaining traction in recent years, especially in smaller spaces. More and more designers are seeing an increase in requests for hiding appliances and integrated cabinetry is a chic way to do it.

Local Love

Due in part to COVID-19 and the impact it has had on our local business and communities, it is no surprise that we are seeing an increase of people wanting to support their local retailers versus big box stores. From your mom and pop appliance store to local artists, bringing your community into your kitchen is an excellent way to bring out your personality and help your neighbors keep their businesses open.

Plants, plants, plants

Did you become a plant mom or dad in 2020? First: congratulations on your newest addition(s). Second: plants can be an excellent way to add a little life and personality to your kitchen. From simple crawlers to the fan favorite monstera deliciosa, a little chlorophyll goes a long way.

Forgo Trends Altogether

Can it be trendy to not be trendy? As we spend more and more time in our kitchens, people are opting to keep their kitchens classic versus catering to a potential fleeting trend.

As with every remodel and home improvement project, we have the same advice across the board — design what you like versus trying to have the trendiest space. Remember, you will probably be with your kitchen a lot longer than a trend will be around.
